Denis Coderre, Quebec and education

Let me tell you a story about the article published on January 10 in the daily The duty : “Denis Coderre is interested in the leadership of the PLQ”.

Years ago, when he was mayor of Montreal, Denis Coderre asked the provincial government for greater municipal involvement in our public school network, a practice that exists elsewhere.

He claims that school boards and municipalities operate independently, with little coordination, and that this is not the most efficient way of doing things.

For example, during school holidays and even during labor disputes, municipalities should have the ability to manage school buildings so that gymnasiums can be made available to the general public when schools are closed.

Sport is an integral part of education, and students should have access to these facilities all year round. Furthermore, it is taxpayers who finance these facilities anyway through municipal taxes and school taxes.

I believe that Mr. Coderre would be an ideal candidate for leadership of the provincial Liberal Party.
