Denis Coderre is interested in the leadership of the PLQ

After the federal and the municipal, Denis Coderre is eyeing the National Assembly in Quebec. The former mayor of Montreal plans to run for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ).

In recent weeks, Mr. Coderre has contacted various figures associated with the party in order to find out whether his candidacy could be appropriate.

The PLQ has struggled to recruit candidates for leadership since the departure of Dominique Anglade in 2022. For the moment only the member for Marguerite-Bourgeoys, Frédéric Beauchemin, is interested.

First revealed by The Press Wednesday morning, the news was confirmed by The duty.

Former Liberal minister Isabelle Melançon is one of the people Mr. Coderre recently asked for advice. “He asked me if I thought it was a good idea for him to go,” she said.

Mme Melançon, who is currently head of the Urban Development Institute, also stressed that she herself no longer engages in partisan politics.
