During the day of Saturday May 11, thousands of demonstrators met in Puy-de-Dôme. They protested against the project to build two water reserves, intended to irrigate 800 hectares.
A hike against megabasins: more than a year after Sainte-Soline, opponents of water reservoirs are once again mobilized. This time, they are protesting against a project in the Limagne plain, in Puy-de-Dôme. This aims to build two huge basins, intended for the irrigation of 36 farms, particularly cereals.
Fight against “water appropriation”
When questioned, the demonstrators explained the reason for their protest: “We are fighting against the appropriation of water, which is still a good that should belong to everyone”, testifies a woman. According to the demonstrators, if they were built, these water reservoirs would be the largest in France, with the equivalent of 500 Olympic swimming pools taken from the Allier.
