Many rallies took place in France on Saturday, November 20 to denounce violence against women. Several associations are calling for more resources from the State to carry out prevention.
Hundreds of signs were erected like a wall in the streets of Paris on Saturday, November 20. A demonstration against violence against women took place in the capital, but also in other cities in France. Demonstrators came to denounce the assaults they experience on a daily basis. “In the course of work, we have sexist remarks, it is very common. We are interrupted during meetings”, adds one of them. The organizers announce that the rallies brought together 50,000 people, they were 18,000 according to the police, half less than two years earlier.
The associations believe that the State is not committing enough resources to this cause. 360 million euros are spent each year, but they claim triple. Some also offer preventive measures from adolescence. “For example, we ask that there be the establishment of a certificate of education in non-violence in middle and high school, as on the model of road safety”, explains Marylie Breuil, member of the #NousToutes collective.
