Demonstrations in Martinique: eleven police officers injured
In Martinique, demonstrations against the high cost of living continue on Tuesday October 8. Eleven police officers were injured on one of the island’s main roads.
Exchanges of blows before the charge of the CRS and shots of tear gas: Monday October 7, in Martinique, violent clashes took place around one of the main roads. The roundabout was occupied by demonstrators protesting against the high cost of living on the island. Eleven police officers were injured, targeted by stone and bottle throwing. One of the leaders of the movement was also hit, five demonstrators were arrested.
Since the beginning of September, the island has been shaken by urban violence and a protest movement against the high cost of living. In Martinique, the price of food products is on average 40% higher than in mainland France. The demonstrators are demanding price alignment with France. A round table of negotiations was planned for Monday October 7, but it was postponed to an unknown date.
