The pro-Palestinian mobilization continues, Friday April 26, at Sciences Po Paris with the occupation and blockade of historic premises. The students received the support of several figures from La France insoumise, including the candidate for the European elections, Rima Hassan, who visited the site on Friday afternoon. “These students are truly carrying the honor of France”she told the press.
A few dozen students from Sciences Po’s Palestine committee occupied the premises on rue Saint-Guillaume, in the heart of the 7th arrondissement of the capital, during the night from Thursday to Friday. Around ten tents were set up on Wednesday evening in the courtyard of another building in the establishment, before the police came to evict them. “The debate, yes. The blocking, no”for her part deplored Friday the Minister of Higher Education, Sylvie Retailleau, on the social network “The red lines have been crossed”she added on BFMTV.
The management of the establishment, which estimates the number of occupants of the main building at around sixty, has decided to close several premises on its Paris campus. She “strongly condemns these student actions”. Accused by part of the educational community of having allowed the police to intervene on campus, management organized a meeting with student representatives on Friday morning.
Massive mobilization in American universities
The Palestine committee of Sciences Po calls in particular “Sciences Po’s clear condemnation of Israel’s actions” And “the end of collaborations” with all “institutions or entities” judged to be accomplices “the systemic oppression of the Palestinian people”. He further requests the cessation of “the repression of pro-Palestinian voices on campus”.
The mobilization comes as several American universities are caught in the turmoil caused by the conflict in Gaza. Hundreds of people have been arrested in recent days at Columbia, New York University and Yale.
