A law, proposed by ultraliberal President Javier Mileil, is being debated in the National Assembly of Argentina. Demonstrations took place to oppose this bill, which prepares numerous privatizations.

In Buenos Aires (Argentina), demonstrators remained mobilized until nightfall. Some are treated after being hit by rubber bullets fired by police. After a day of face-to-face confrontation in front of the National Assembly, the demonstration turned into a confrontation and several injuries were reported. “For the second day in a row, the police entered the square directly to repress. They hit women and throw gas“, indicates Celeste Fierro, demonstrator.

Many public companies should be privatized

These thousands of demonstrators are protesting against the colossal reform project of the ultraliberal president, Javier Milei, discussed since Wednesday January 31 in the Assembly. This law, called Omnibus, aims, among other things, to privatize numerous public companies. It must also delegate increased powers to the executive. Opposition MPs requested an adjournment of the debate, to no avail.
