Already mobilized last Saturday on Place Stanislas, activists from the Education Without Borders (RESF) network are doing it again this Thursday in Nancy. At 3 p.m., they will meet on the Place de la République to march towards the Prefecture with a clear objective: to ask the authorities to advance legislation on the regularization of undocumented migrants. “Or at least, that the files are studied with good faith“, confides Charlotte, one of the members.
Facilitate access to the labor market
What RESF wants in particular is to help undocumented migrants who are currently struggling to find work or go back to school. Like Rabah, who arrived in Nancy from Algeria 3 years ago. He works since May 2020 in construction but his 5th contract is about to expire, this is the maximum number beyond which an undocumented person cannot be extended. “So I’m going to start the process in September“, he confides. “If they tell me no, I may have to leave France. I contribute, but I am not entitled to anything“, he regrets.
At 18, Billy also arrived 3 years ago in Nancy. Originally from Guinea Conakry, he has since passed a CAP electrician and now works in a company in Heillecourt. Every 3 months, he must renew his visa in order to continue working. A situation he regrets: “We are a lot in this situation, it is not comfortable“, he denounces. “Young people are often looked after by the department up to the age of 21. But we could drop them at 30, it wouldn’t change anything, since they still couldn’t work like everyone else.“, reminds Charlotte, the RESF activist.
