Demonstration in support of Palestine | The Jacques-Cartier Bridge reopened in both directions

(Montreal) The Jacques-Cartier Bridge is reopened to traffic after being completely closed Thursday morning by demonstrators who demanded an “immediate ceasefire” in Gaza.

The bridge remained inaccessible during rush hour. The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) arrived on site at 6:45 a.m. “We are asking people to avoid the area,” police spokesperson Catherine Bernard said at the time. No incidents related to the demonstration have been reported.

The demonstrators finally left the scene shortly before 8:30 a.m. No incidents related to the demonstration were reported.

The protesters present were calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to call for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the activist group said in a statement.

“We are here in solidarity with Gaza because we cannot remain silent and let the status quo continue,” said participant Rachel Barker, according to the same statement.
