With the heavy rains falling on southern Quebec, the Montreal metro is experiencing disruptions. Trains no longer stop at Square Victoria-OACI station until further notice “due to water infiltration”, indicates the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) on Twitter.
“We are closely monitoring certain stations, and the Montreal Fire Department is working with us to assess the situation,” said Philippe Déry, spokesperson for the STM, in an interview with The duty.
The latter also recommends not to take the various entrances to the station which may not be blocked for the moment.
Earlier, Tuesday, a service interruption had been in place between the Crémazie and Montmorency stations for more than an hour, but this was not related to the rain, specifies Mr. Déry.
A very heavy rain fell on the metropolis and southern Quebec between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday evening. Environment and Climate Change Canada predicts a total of 50 to 75 millimeters by Wednesday morning.
Weather warnings have been issued in several areas, including the metropolitan area, but also the Laurentians, Lanaudière, Mauricie, Lac-Saint-Jean and the Richelieu-Saint-Hyacinthe valley.
Some roads are also impassable due to rain. This is the case for Highway 19 in Montreal, which is closed northbound from Henri-Bourassa Boulevard.
