This contract has a value of nearly 1.1 billion dollars according to the last list price communicated by Airbus – but never applied in reality.
The aircraft, A220-300s with a capacity of 130 seats, will be delivered from 2026.
Since the opening of this first major meeting of world aeronautics on Monday in south-west London, the American major has been one of the few to animate the traditional market for order announcements.
It thus announced on Monday a firm order for 100 models of the 737 MAX 10, the medium-haul aircraft from the American aircraft manufacturer Boeing. This order comes with an option for 30 additional aircraft and totals approximately $13.5 billion at list price.
“Delta’s expanding A220 fleet reinforces the company’s commitment to the environment. Pratt & Whitney’s latest-generation GTF engines powering the A220 deliver 25% fuel savings over the aircraft they replace,” Delta said in a statement.
“Delta was the launch customer for the A220 in the United States and we are delighted to announce this additional order which demonstrates how satisfied they are with the A220, both economically and passengers”, according to Christian Scherer, commercial director of Airbus, quoted in a press release from the aircraft manufacturer.
Delta currently operates 11 A220-300s and has 51 on order – counting the 12 planes ordered on Tuesday – and has 45 A220-100s in its fleet with a capacity of 109 passengers.
Manufactured in Mirabel in Canada, the A220 program corresponds to the former CSeries of the Canadian group Bombardier, a program which Airbus took control of in 2017.
As of June 30, Airbus had sold 762 A220 aircraft since the launch of the program, of which 218 have been delivered.
