It’s a huge blow for the France team. Less than two months before the start of the World Cup, Olympique Lyonnais has announced that French striker Delphine Cascarino will be “absent from the grounds for several months”. The Lyonnaise suffers from a “partial rupture of the right anterior common ligament” that requires surgery “restorative”. She will therefore miss the World Cup, which takes place from July 20 to August 20 in Australia and New Zealand.
Cascarino was injured in the second half of the poster for the 21st day of D1 Arkema against PSG, at the Parc des Princes, Sunday, May 21, after a bad contact with his compatriot and teammate in the selection Elisa de Almeida. She had participated in the title celebrations on the lawn with the other Lyonnaises but could not hold back her tears. “The club will make every effort to allow him to return in the best conditions for the future deadlines to come”explains OL in its press release.
At 26, the Lyonnaise is an essential element of the Bleues. From the top of her 56 selections, she participated in the 2019 World Cup and Euro 2022. Her absence casts even more doubt in an offensive sector which already deplores the injuries of Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Kadidiatou Diani, not sure of being able to go to the World Cup.
