Delphine Cascarino announces her departure from Lyon after 15 years at the club

The 27-year-old Frenchwoman has been at OL since she was 12 and wants to have a new experience abroad.

The adventure ends for an iconic OL player. Delphine Cascarino leaves her favorite club after 15 years to discover new horizons. The striker, selected for the French team for the Paris Olympic Games, announced on Tuesday, July 23, her departure from Olympique Lyonnais, with whom she was at the end of her contract. In a video published on the X account (ex-Twitter) of the OL women’s team, the 27-year-old player talks about “a very difficult choice to leave Olympique Lyonnais where (she) arrived at the age of 12”.

“I was very young, but now I want to have other experiences abroad”she explains without revealing her future destination. She is announced in the United States, at the San Diego Wave, a club playing in the NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League). “It was exceptional to play in this club in Lyon, in my heart city, where I was born. I remember a lot of joy and victories with this team”continued the attacker who particularly mentioned the “fifth consecutive victory in the Champions League”.

Delphine Cascarino wanted to “special thanks to Jean-Michel Aulas” (the former president)” which allowed him to achieve “(her) dream of playing professionally at OL, and Michele Kang (the new owner and president) who will also contribute to the dream of many young girls like me”. As a professional with OL, she won nine French championship titles, including the last in May 2024, and six Champions League titles.
