Manufacturers BMW, Stellantis and Volkswagen have recently deployed major separate recall campaigns to correct defects in certain vehicles.

At BMW, nearly 100,000 Canadian vehicles (98,111) will have to be repaired to counter the risk of fire. These are the Series 1 (2008 to 2013), Series 3 (2006 to 2013), Series 5 (2006 to 2010), X3 (2007 to 2010), X5 (2007 to 2010) and Z4 (2006 to 2011) models equipped with N52 AND N52K naturally aspirated six-cylinders. Transport Canada specifies in its sheet that a “manufacturing problem could cause a short circuit and overheating of the valve heater of the crankcase gas recycling (CGR) valve”. Owners of these vehicles are encouraged to park them outside, and it says “corrective actions for this recall are being worked on.”
On the Stellantis side, the recall campaign is essentially aimed at a software patch. On certain Dodge Durango (2021 and 2022), Ram 2500 (2019 to 2022) and Ram 3500 (2019 to 2022), the light indicating that the stability control system is not active may not illuminate. This could obviously compromise the behavior of the vehicle in emergency manoeuvres, which would have unfortunate consequences when you take into account the fact that these vehicles are quite imposing and high on their legs. It is estimated that 29,924 vehicles are affected in Canada.
Volkswagen’s campaign is seeking to address an issue with slowed deployment of side airbags on Atlas (2019 to 2022) and Atlas Cross Sport (2020 to 2022) models due to “front door wiring [qui] could be damaged”. A total of 23,192 copies will have to make a stop in the workshops of Canadian dealers.
