Defective airbags | Stellantis recalls more than 10,000 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300

(Toronto) Stellantis has recalled more than 10,000 Dodge and Chrysler sedans in Canada due to defective airbags.

The company explained that approximately 10,285 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 sedans from model years 2018 to 2021 have been recalled to replace their side airbag inflator. This could explode if subjected to too much force and throw metal fragments at drivers and passengers.

The automaker said moisture can enter the inflator due to a manufacturing defect and cause corrosion and cracking. The cushions can thus inflate even without a collision due to high temperatures in the passenger compartment.

The company said it is not aware of any injuries or accidents related to the faulty airbag.

According to Stellantis, the defect is present in less than 1% of recalled vehicles, but the manufacturer urged its customers to follow the recall notice.

Worldwide, 318,000 Dodge and Chrysler vehicles are affected by this recall.
