The rivalry between Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande has been one of the main intrigues of the French political scene in recent decades. The war between the two men was particularly visible during the 2012 electoral campaign, where their differences in vision and style of governance were highlighted. Their heated exchanges during the presidential debates left their mark. For good reason, their relationship was punctuated by often harsh public statements. Each often criticized the other’s choices and decisions, thus fueling a persistent duel.
More than 10 years after his defeat against the former leader of the Socialist Party, Carla Bruni’s companion has not yet turned the page. Particularly angry against his opponent, he recently used very strong words in the columns of Parisian.“It’s not that I hate him, but I despise him.”, he said before attacking the weight of the former President of the Republic. Every time they meet, Nicolas Sarkozy says to François Hollande: “You haven’t gained weight?” Which has the gift of exasperating the main person concerned.

Guest of BFM TV this Sunday October 1, 2023, François Hollande therefore reacted to Nicolas Sarkozy’s recent comments towards him. He considers in particular that as “President of the Republic” he is not’“would not lower oneself to attack one’s predecessor”. He actually thinks that“there is a level of dignity to be had”. “I understand, it’s very difficult to be beaten. It’s a pain, but I’m not going to add to it, I think it was cruel enough in 2012”, he added. A speech which did not fail to make Internet users react.
