The employee of the Equans Services company was carrying out handling work to unblock a suitcase before falling fatally.

“A member of our team unfortunately lost his life,” said the company’s senior vice-president of operations, Pierre Lapointe. His death was pronounced at the scene by paramedics.

Two CNESST investigators were then dispatched to the scene to set up a security perimeter and collect testimony.

They then suspended this task until the employer submitted a new work method to them and informed the employees of the procedure to follow if such a situation were to arise again.

“Support measures have also been deployed for all personnel who witnessed this incident,” adds Mr. Lapointe.

Equans Services and Aéroports de Montréal assure that they are cooperating fully with the CNESST in its investigation.

Airport operations were not affected by this event.
