A “debris field” was discovered in the North Atlantic near the wreck of the Titanic by a robot participating in international searches to find a scientific tourism submersible missing since Sunday, announced Thursday, June 22, the US Coast Guard.

“Experts are reviewing this information” which will be discussed at a press briefing in Boston, in the northeastern United States, on Thursday afternoon, the United States Coast Guard said on its Twitter account, while the theoretical reserves of oxygen on board of the submersible carrying five people are exhausted.

Rescuers had estimated at 1:08 p.m. (French time) when passengers could find themselves running out of oxygen on board the Titan, a small deep-sea explorer from the American private company OceanGate Expeditions. Missing since Sunday, the machine has a theoretical autonomy of 96 hours in diving.

Wednesday’s announcement of the detection of underwater noises by Canadian P-3 planes raised hopes and oriented the multinational armada of rescuers dispatched to the scene, without the origin of the noises being determined.
