Death of Thomas in Crépol: “What’s shocking is that it’s happening in the ‘countryside’,” says the spokesperson for the Unité SGP Police Île-de-France union

More than a week after the death of Thomas, stabbed Crepol (Drôme) on November 18, the motive for the tragedy is still not known. Reda Belhajspokesperson for the SGP Police Île-de-France Unit, indicates: “It’s a very sensitive subject. We have the impression that in today’s society (…) every French person becomes a judge.” The trade unionist affirms that the media coverage “complicates the matter”. “Today, what is shocking is that it is happening in the ‘countryside’, (…) where we are not used to this violence”he assures.

Six individuals incarcerated

Nine individuals were indicted in connection with this affair, six were imprisoned. None of them admits to having stabbed Thomas fatally. Reda Belha explains that “pre-trial detention” is used for that. “The investigating judges will dig deeper. We will try to understand exactly what happened in detail. When you have around ten alleged perpetrators and 400 people at the evening, (…) you have to give time [à l’enquête]”, details the spokesperson, who regrets the impatience of the French. In addition, he denounces the ultra-right violence perpetrated this weekend.
