Fabien Roussel, national secretary of the Communist Party was the guest of “8h30 franceinfo”, Tuesday April 9, 2024. Death of Shemseddine in Viry-Châtillon, war in Gaza, France’s deficit, Ceta, he answers questions from Salhia Brakhlia and Jérôme Chapuis.

Death of Shemseddine: “We can no longer consider this as news items but as social facts”

The 15 year old young man “was beaten up for having exchanged words of a sexual nature with a young girl”, comments Fabien Roussel, after the death of Shemseddine in Viry-Châtillon. “This means two things.” he specifies: “A more violent society in the sense that violence is expressed earlier and earlier among young people with deaths, and the second thing, as if there was a society increasingly intolerant in relations to sexuality , and that’s also what appeals to me”.

Gaza: “Let us not be indirectly complicit in this genocidal risk”

“France should refer the matter to the International Court of Justice to raise awareness about the ongoing genocide in Gaza”believes Fabien Roussel. “France should take this initiative, put all its weight behind it”, he adds. According to the boss of the PCF, France, because of its “significant political and diplomatic weight” must be “more on the offensive” but “don’t use that weight”he regrets.

Asked about the initiative of French Presidents Emmanuel Macron, Egyptian Abdel Fattah al-Sissi and Jordanian King Abdullah II to call for a ceasefire “immediate” and their warning against an Israeli offensive in Rafah, Fabien Roussel responds “Finally !” But according to the communist deputy, “we must move on to sanctions” And “be more political”. He calls on France to “recognizing the State of Palestine is a strong political act which would have resonance especially on the international scene”explains the elected official from the North who visited Jerusalem and Ramallah at the beginning of March

Ceta: “If necessary, we will launch a parliamentary initiative referendum process”

“We ask the government to transmit this text to the National Assembly”, declares the national secretary of the Communist Party about the project to ratify Ceta, the free trade treaty between the European Union and Canada. For the moment, the government refuses this transmission.

“If he does not do so, we plan to propose as part of our parliamentary niche on May 30 a draft resolution which takes up the terms of this text”recalls Fabien Roussel. “This will show the French that in the Senate as in the National Assembly, there is a majority desire to reject this free trade agreement”he believes.

Deficit: in the event of an amending budget, “we will vote” on the Republicans’ motion of censure

Fabien Roussel recalls that Bruno Le Maire and Emmanuel Macron are “in responsibility together for seven years”. They are therefore “responsible for an aggravated, enormous deficit, the largest we have seen in recent years and a debt which is increased by 900 billion euros”he continues, pointing to their “very poor management of public finances”. “They are incompetent and they make us pay”he denounces, adding that “They are crooks.”

The Republican party, led by Eric Ciotti, has already announced that it “will not hesitate” to table a motion of censure if the government submits a draft amending finance law (PLFR) to reduce the public deficit and this text exceeds certain “red lines”, like rising taxes. The communist deputy from the North, for his part, refuses in particular the reduction of the budgets of “school, research, health”.
