Former journalist Pierre Beaulieu, who made a career at Montreal Journalhas The Press and at Duty, is dead. He was 75 years old.
Arrive at The Press in the early 1970s in the Sports section, he was the first North American journalist to cover the Tour de France cycling race, in 1971. After the 1976 Olympic Games, he moved to the Arts and Entertainment section. His career as a cultural journalist lasted around ten years, during which he was notably a record and show critic.
At the end of the 1980s, Pierre Beaulieu entered the Duty as assistant to the information director. As head of the desk, a position he held until his retirement, he is master of the production of the paper edition of the Duty, and creator of the front page.
Mr. Beaulieu was also a lecturer at UQAM for a long time, where he taught the daily press course and contributed to the training of many young journalists.
Colleagues at Le Devoir will long remember his biting and unique humor, his deadpan side and his immense mastery of current affairs and the art of producing a newspaper.
