Death of Joël Robuchon: his wife did not want their children to follow in his footsteps

When he died four years ago, Joël Robuchon left behind three children, two boys, Louis and Eric and a girl, Sophie. Reserved about his family life, the identity of his companion has never been revealed. Nevertheless, the chef crowned “Best worker in France” in 1976 had mentioned the woman of his life during an interview with journalists from Tele 2 weeks in 2011.

During this interview, the cook who died at the age of 73 on August 6, 2018 from pancreatic cancer had confided that his wife was not really a fan of his job, which she considered extremely tiring. “Their mom didn’t really want Sophie and her brother (Louis editor’s note) to come with me (…) She was far too afraid that they too would cook for their livelihood, so she rightly found that it was particularly absorbing.“, confided the star of the show of the 2000s Have a good meal, of course.

However, Joël Robuchon’s children have all followed in his footsteps, passionate like him about gastronomy and the culinary arts. If her eldest Louis became the manager of a wine import-export company and owner of two wine bars in Bordeaux and Japan, Sophie took part in several cooking shows with her dad. “They offered me to appear on the screen alongside my fatherexplained the young woman. I immediately said yes because it allowed me to share his passion a little more with him. And then it gives the show a transmission side of father/daughter recipes and cooking secrets that tempted me enough.”

A joy for the cook who confided: “The show has another undeniable advantage: that of being able to meet up with us at least once a month during the recordings. As I am always between two planes and she herself has a very busy schedule, the opportunities to see us are unfortunately quite rare..”

As for the youngest son of Joël Robuchon, Eric, he is the manager of a culinary management company called L’olivier, which he manages with his sister Sophie Kartheiser.
