The brilliant actor Jean-Louis Trintignant died this Friday at the age of 91. The actor made his debut in the film Christian Jacques entitled “If all the guys in the world”, where he had played the short role of a Parisian radio amateur, before interpreting nearly 160 other roles in theater and cinema. Without being exhaustive, here are some feature films that marked his career.
And God created the woman
Under the camera Roger Vadimthe feature film caused a stir with critics when it was released and served as a launching pad on the international scene for the careers of its two main actors, namely: Brigitte Bardot and Jean-Louis Trintignant. The film with the prestigious cast caused a scandal in 1956, because its director Roger Vadim directly evoked feminine desires. The work also serves as a business card for the small, little-known Var village of Saint Tropez which will then experience the boom that we know of.
A man and a woman
Oscar for best film in Hollywood and Palme d’Or at Cannes in 1966, directed and produced by Claude Lelouch, the film touches viewers all over the world. The legendary couple Anouk Aime and Jean-Louis Trintignantcombined with the music of Francis Lai and Pierre Barouhmake this universal and timeless story one of the jewels of the seventh art.
Z
Huge success of the year 1969, the film relates the assassination of a deputy by forces close to the power in place, but that the authorities seek to camouflage. Strongly inspired by the assassination of Georges Lambrakis (played by Yves Montand) in Greece, Jean-Louis Trintignant embodies here an inflexible examining magistrate who finally manages to indict, despite pressure, the highest authorities of the State and the army.
The feature film receives in 1969 the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival as well as the Best Actor Award for Jean-Louis Trintignant. A year later, its director Costa Gavras receives theAcademy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Note that the music is signed by the great composer Mikis Theodorakis.
Without apparent mobile
Shot in Nice in a staging by Philippe Labro, Superintendent Stéphane Carella (Jean-Louis Trintignant) finds himself faced with two murders committed on the same day as well as two others the following day. It is up to him to find the common point between all these events. Sacha Distel and the always excellent Paul Crauchet are part of the cast of this feature film with sustained suspense. Jean-Louis Trintignant is admirable there.
The train
May 1940, faced with the German invasion, is the debacle. A train leaves the Ardennes for La Rochelle. At the heart of the turmoil, it is the meeting between Julien and Anna, but also that of the other refugees whose destinies are upset by the clash of arms. Under the direction of Pierre Granier-Deferrethe couple formed on screen by Jean-Louis Trintignant and Romy Schneider is overwhelming in this film which was released on screens in 1973. The distribution is also admirable, namely: Regine, Maurice Biraud, Serge Marquand or Paul le Person, all contribute to the success of this work with its moving finale. Difficult to remain insensitive to this torrent of emotions.
Cop Story
Adapted from the book of Roger Bornicheformer police inspector, the film of Jacques Deray makes us follow the incessant hunt of the public enemy number 1 of the post-war period, Emile Buisson. Murders, hostage taking, chases, for three years, the bandit is elusive. The Tandem Jean-Louis Trintignant – Alain Delon works wonderfully. It was the latter who produced the film in 1975.
Can’t wait for Sunday
Last feature film by Francois Truffaut which came out on screens in 1983, it features a real estate agent and his secretary (Fanny Ardant and Jean-Louis Trintignant). The latter is accused of murder. His collaborator, secretly in love, will do everything to clear him. A detective comedy with lots of nods and references to the masters of thriller, the film is shot in black and white, to better restore the atmosphere of Hollywood’s golden age. A great success.
