The leader of Hamas was killed in a strike on Tuesday, July 30 in Tehran, Iran. Israel spoke of a targeted strike, without claiming responsibility.

It was the last public appearance of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, who stood next to the new Iranian president, Massoud Pezeshkian, in Tehran (Iran). A few hours later, his death was announced in a statement by Hamas. The news quickly made headlines in Iran. The movement accused Israel of being behind the deadly strike and announced that this act would not go unanswered. All eyes turned to Israel, but no claim from Benjamin Netanyahu.

Ismail Haniyeh had become one of the main targets of the Hebrew state since the attacks of October 7. He became known in 2006, when he became Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority. For several years, he had lived in exile between Qatar and Turkey. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the death of the Palestinian leader. In the occupied Palestinian territories, it is indignation for Hamas supporters.
