Gérard Collomb died of stomach cancer on Saturday November 25 at the age of 76. The former Minister of the Interior is unanimously praised by the political class.
Gérard Collomb died on Saturday November 25 at the age of 76. Multiple tributes have been paid to the former Minister of the Interior: from residents of Lyon (Rhône), a town of which he was mayor, to Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic. A graduate of classics, he entered politics in the 1970s and quickly climbed the ranks, to the point of becoming a deputy for the Rhône in the 1980s.
Lyon in the heart
Gérard Collomb felt a great attachment to the capital of Gaul. First becoming mayor of the 9th arrondissement, he then won the position of councilor of the town in 2001. His plan was to make Lyon a European capital. He was re-elected in 2008 then in 2014. He then became a senator then was appointed Minister of the Interior, a position from which he resigned in October 2018. He then failed to reconquer Lyon. He died on Saturday November 25 from cancer.
