Death of French actress Mylène Demongeot, figure of popular cinema

(Paris) French actress Mylène Demongeot, figure of popular cinema, died Thursday at the age of 87, after 70 years of career and as many films, announced her press secretary to AFP.


Mylène Demongeot, engaged in the defense of the environment and animals, died “early afternoon” in a Parisian hospital, she said.

From the trilogy Ghosts in the 1960s to that of Camping half a century later, each generation will keep its own memory of this popular actress.

The actress, who was not confined to the popular cinema which made her popularity, will have toured as well with Jean Marais, Yves Montand as Roger Moore.

Blonde hair, smiling face, Mylène Demongeot was often compared to Brigitte Bardot, with whom she shared the same love of animals and the environment, and of whom she was even presented as a rival.

A popular figure, she was in demand right to the end, still playing a role in Retirement homea comedy with Kev Adams and Gérard Depardieu, one of the rare French films to exceed two million admissions in 2022.

“Mylène Demongeot was a committed actress, sensitive, in particular, to the defense of the animal and environmental cause and the right to die with dignity”, underline her relatives in a press release announcing her death.
