Death of Eric Carmen, singer of “Hungry Eyes” and “All by Myself”

American singer Eric Carmen, performer of the global hit All by Myselflater taken over by Céline Dion, died at the age of 74, his wife announced Tuesday, who did not specify where this death occurred.

“Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep this weekend. He was very happy to know that, for decades, his music touched so many people and that it will remain engraved in their memory,” she wrote in a message posted on the artist’s official website.

Amy Carmen also asked fans to “respect the family’s privacy as we grieve our tremendous loss.”

The cause of death has not been specified.

Born in 1949 in Cleveland, Ohio, Eric Carmen began his musical career by co-founding the rock group “The Raspberries” in the 1970s, which disbanded five years later. The band’s first album featured a raspberry-scented scratch-and-sniff sticker.

The group reformed in 2004. A concert from this tour was the subject of an album, released in 2017, and entitled Raspberries Pop Art Live.

The singer is best known for being the singer of the hit All by Myself in 1975 and Hungry Eyestaken from the soundtrack of the very popular film Dirty Dancing (1987), with Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey.

His song Almost Paradisewhich he co-wrote for the film Footlooseearned him a Grammy nomination.

Her hits have been covered by artists as varied as Céline Dion (All By Myself), Shaun Cassidy (That’s Rock’n Roll) or John Travolta (Never Gonna Fall in Love Again).
