Death of Elizabeth II – Kate and William change status: this title they inherit

This Thursday, September 8, 2022 is a fatal day: Queen Elizabeth II died, at the age of 96, after seventy years of reign. As soon as his death was announced, the royal protocol that had been planned for a long time for these sad circumstances was put in place. Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, therefore becomes king in place of his mother and assumes the title of King Charles III. For his part, his wife Camilla accedes to the status of queen consort.

Other major changes in the order of succession are to be taken into account: Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and his wife Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, officially become Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, the titles that Prince Charles and Camilla had until now. New titles very quickly applied to the official accounts they have on social networks. The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge should we now call them…

Earlier in the day, Prince William had flown to Balmoral via the royal family’s private plane, with his uncles Princes Edward (accompanied by his wife Sophie of Wessex) and Andrew on board. Because their three children made their return to school today, in their new school in Lambrook, Kate Middleton could not travel with Prince William. The Duchess was pictured looking drawn, picking up George, Charlotte and Louis from school. Prince Charles, with his wife Camilla, were in Scotland and were thus able to join Queen Elizabeth’s bedside very quickly, as was her fourth child, Princess Anne. Prince Harry, back in Europe last weekend with Meghan Markle, was not accompanied by his wife, who remained in London.

A family reunion in very sad circumstances…
