His first political act set the course: in 1970, Alain Delon bought the manuscript of General de Gaulle’s L’appel aux Français, to prevent the document from being sold to a foreigner. He appreciated in the general a certain idea of France, and a commander’s stature. “For me, first of all, he was a leader”he declared in 1973. Alain Delon is one of the rare artists to assume his political convictions, very much to the right.
