Death of a toddler in 2019 in Quebec | Woman accused of manslaughter

After 29 months of police investigation, a woman has just been arrested by the Service de police de la Ville de Québec (SPVQ) for the death of a 13-month-old child in July 2019.

The SPVQ specifies that Diana Torres Acosta, aged 39, is accused of manslaughter. His appearance in the Criminal Chamber of the Courthouse of Quebec has already taken place.

The SPVQ reports that it was contacted on July 18, 2019 following a report to the Direction de la Protection de la jeunesse (DYP) concerning a young child who presented injuries and serious injuries similar to those of the shaken baby syndrome. At the time of this report, there were concerns for the child’s life.

An investigation was undertaken by the SPVQ because the child’s injuries corresponded to acts that were allegedly inflicted on him voluntarily. A few days later, the 13-month-old succumbed to his injuries.

It was after an investigation lasting nearly two and a half years that the police officers of the SPVQ’s serious crimes unit were able to indict Diana Torres Acosta.

It is not known whether a family link united the accused and the young victim, as well as the date of the continuation of the legal proceedings.
