death of a teenager after a fall on the rails of the metro

This Thursday, a 17-year-old young man died after a fall in the Marseille metro, at the Blancarde station on line 1. According to the Régie des Transports, he practiced “trainsurfing” between two trains.

The accident occurred this Thursday, at 9:15 a.m. on line 1 of the Marseille Metro, at the Blancarde station.

An investigation is open, but according to the first elements, it seems that the young man was traveling “between Timone and Blancarde stations no not inside the train but perched on the coupling system between the cars of the same train”, indicates the Régie des Transports de Marseille.

A fall would probably be the cause of death.

Despite the arrival of help, the electrocuted young man could not be saved.

The RTM specifies that this practice “beyond being strictly prohibited, is particularly dangerous, as is climbing onto the roof of trains in circulation (train surfing), other networks in France have had to deplore several deaths”.

The Marseille metro is in the modernization phase. In the future, there will be doors preventing people from crossing and one-piece trains.
