A serious accident on the departmental road between Caen and Ouistreham occurred yesterday shortly before 1 p.m. A car hit two cars and a van from the Calvados departmental road agency. The two agents were seriously injured and transported to Caen University Hospital. One of the two died, indicates this morning the departmental council. He was 43 years old.
The accident occurred on the four-lane Caen-Ouistreham, where driving conditions were complicated after heavy rain showers. Aquaplaning seems to be the cause of a 19-year-old driver’s loss of control. The latter was not injured.
Michel Fricout, vice-president of the department in charge of infrastructure and the network, went on Monday morning to the Mathieu operating center, near the site of the accident, where a psychological aid cell was opened. He supports the personnel deployed on the roads and recalls: “that we have to be careful with our agents, it’s a dangerous job. I also ask motorists to slow down when they pass in front of a construction site. Drama can happen and there the tragedy happened”. A minute of silence was observed at the opening of the departmental session of Calvados elected officials.
