The Ministry of Ecological Transition has broadcast a surprising message to discourage buyers. The advertising spots, broadcast on television and on the Internet, feature “dealers”, a new imaginary profession. Their aim is to raise awareness among the French about more responsible consumption in the household appliances or textiles sector. This campaign is causing debate among consumers. “Either way, we consume too many things that we don’t need.“, recognizes a man.

48 new clothes per year on average

Encouraging sobriety during the Black Friday period aroused the anger of merchants and caused controversy in the government. The Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, considered the campaign clumsy with regard to physical commerce, even if he says he believes in “encouraging sobriety“. According to a study by the ecological association Friends of the Earth, a French person buys on average 48 new clothes per year.
