(Los Angeles) Marvel Superheroes Deadpool & Wolverine returned to the top of the North American box office this weekend for their fifth weekend in theaters, according to projections from specialist firm Exhibitor Relations released Sunday.
Driven by the popularity of stars Ryan Reynolds (Dead Pool) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), the Disney blockbuster has racked up $18.3 million in revenue in recent days, for a massive total of $1.2 billion worldwide.
Released in 2019, Joker was until then the only other “R” rated film (not recommended for children under 17) to reach $1 billion, according to the magazine. Hollywood Reporter.
In second place is the one that topped the ranking last week, the latest installment in the science fiction saga Alien with $16.2 million.
Alien: Romulus is the ninth film in the Alien universe, which began in 1979 with Alien., by British director Ridley Scott. The latest installment tells the story of space colonists who, while exploring an abandoned space station, encounter a face-eating alien.
Based on the bestselling book It Ends With Us (Sony) by American author Colleen Hoover, starring the star of Gossip GirlBlake Lively, is in third place with $11.9 million in revenue, $242 million in total worldwide since its release.
This clear success is “one more sign of the better health of the American film industry,” says expert David A. Gross.
Zoe Kravitz’s thriller Blink Twice also did well with 7.3 million dollars in revenue and placed 4th.e position in movie theaters in Canada and the United States.
Christian drama at the back of the pack The Forge accumulates 6.6 million.
