(Boucherville) The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) opened an investigation following a swerve that killed one on Highway 30 in Boucherville on Monday.
An independent investigation was launched following an intervention involving the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu police department and the Sûreté du Québec.
The Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu police were called for mischief and noise around 3:35 a.m. They then found on the spot that it was a theft of a vehicle.
“The police would then have traced the said vehicle sought on Highway 35 and they would have headed on Highway 10 to then take Highway 30 East”, can we read in a press release from the BEI, where it is added that they requested assistance over radio waves at 3:59 a.m.
Police officers from the Sûreté du Québec would then have come to their aid, by installing a studded carpet at the height of Route 116.
“The subject’s vehicle would have bypassed the studded carpet and would have continued on its way still on Highway 30 eastbound to the ramp for Highway 20 East, where it would have swerved,” it is specified.
His death was pronounced at the hospital.
Five BEI investigators are being assisted by the Service de police de la ville de Montréal (SPVM) in this investigation.
In addition, the SPVM is holding a parallel criminal investigation into the events that occurred.
