Deadly lurch in Abitibi | The victim trapped in his burning vehicle

(Quebec) A road accident took a dramatic turn early Sunday morning in the small municipality of 1,200 inhabitants of Trécesson, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

The swerve occurred on Route 111, around 5:45 a.m., near Chemin Boisvert, for a reason that is still unknown.

“According to initial information, the vehicle traveling east on Route 111 left the road and collided with a rocky area. There was a person who was in the vehicle,” said Sergeant Ève Brochu-Joubert, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.

The vehicle caught fire after impact.

“The person driving was stuck inside. The fire was finally brought under control by firefighters. On the other hand, the victim’s death was unfortunately noted on the spot,” explained Sergeant Brochu-Joubert.

In this context, it was impossible to say whether the victim is a man or a woman. Formal identification will be made by autopsy.

Route 111 was still closed to traffic, shortly before lunchtime, near Langlois Street, in both directions. Motorists were invited to take a detour via Chemin Boisvert.

A police officer specialized in collision investigations had to analyze the scene to clarify the circumstances of this swerve.

The Sûreté du Québec investigation continues.
