In Italy, terrible floods have affected the Bologna region since Tuesday, May 16. The rising waters killed at least five people and forced the evacuation of thousands of people.

Refugees on the floors of the houses, the inhabitants of the village of Faenza (Italy) are trapped, impossible to get out without the firefighters. In the flooded streets, Tuesday, May 16, the rescuers were slowed down by the rain which had fallen all night on the sector. A total of 5,000 people were evacuated. These record rains affected 23 municipalities, transforming the streets of the small town of Cesena into a river.

Second floods since early May

In less than 24 hours, three months’ worth of rain fell, causing 14 rivers in the region to overflow. The water rose so quickly in a building that neighbors were forced to rescue a mother and her baby swimming, in extremis. A resident says he is worried about the current situation in his city. On Wednesday May 17 in the morning, train traffic was suspended in the direction of the Bologna region and one of the motorways was closed. This is the second wave of deadly floods in less than a month in the region.
