In Brazil, a section of cliff broke off and hit tourist boats on Saturday, January 8. A few minutes earlier, tourists were enjoying the scenery on Lake Furnas (Brazil). Suddenly, a first disturbing landslide, followed by another. The passengers of a boat then try to sound the alarm, in vain. It is too late: an entire section of the cliff collapses, and crushes the nearest boats. The toll is heavy: seven dead, and three missing.

Interrupted during the night, the search continued on Sunday. “We can now see ship wreckage, which was affected in the crash”, said one of the firefighters. Two hours before the disaster, civil protection had recommended avoiding waterfalls, due to heavy rains. An investigation will need to determine whether the tourism companies have been negligent.
