Dead firefighters in Charlevoix: funeral on Saturday for one of the two men

The funeral of Régis Lavoie, one of the two firefighters who died in service during the floods in Charlevoix, will be celebrated on Saturday afternoon.

The 55-year-old man will be taken to his final rest after the religious service scheduled for 2 p.m. at the church of Saint-Urbain.

The Municipality of Saint-Urbain has also indicated that at the request of the families, there will be no civic funerals for the two firefighters who died on duty.

“According to the wishes of the families who wish to proceed with simplicity in the image of the deceased, there will be no civic funeral. The Municipality respects this decision and invites the population to do the same”, can we read on the Facebook page of the Municipality.

As for Christopher Lavoie, 23, his family will pay him a final tribute on Friday, May 26.

Remember that the volunteer firefighters died on 1er May after bravely trying to save two citizens in peril due to rising waters.

The bodies of the missing were recovered from the Gouffre River two days later, after a long search more than a kilometer south of the Route 138 bridge in Saint-Urbain.
