DC United beats CF Montreal 1-0

CF Montreal had difficulty keeping up with DC United.

After numerous chances to score, Pedro Santos finally found the back of the net for his team, in the 85the minute, and DC United defeated the Montreal team 1-0 on Saturday evening at Audi Field.

CF Montreal has lost its last two games and now has a 2-2-1 record. The club’s last victory against DC United dates back to 1er October 2022.

Josef Martínez got his first start with the Montreal squad.

DC United applied a lot of pressure at the start of the match. The team thought they had taken a 1-0 lead in the first five minutes, following a defensive confusion between the defenders of the Montreal eleven, but the sequence turned out to be offside.

DC United had a good shot on target in the following moments, but Laurent Courtois calmed the pace by diving to his right to grab the ball.

The local favorites had already had two shots on target in the first 10 minutes of play.

After 37 minutes in the first half, DC United had attacked CF Montreal’s zone 34 times. The Montreal club had only created five attacks.

In the 24e minute of play, Sirois dove to his right and deprived Christian Benteke of a certain goal. Benteke was also the one who saw his goal called back due to an offside at the start of the match.

A few minutes later, defender Fernando Álvarez blocked two shots in a row for CF, as DC United continued to threaten near the penalty area.

CF’s first good opportunity came in the 37the minute, but Dominik Iankov’s right kick missed the target.

The first half ended when Sirois stopped a shot after a corner kick, while Benteke had regained the ball near the right post.

CF started the second half better, controlling the ball a little more in the central and offensive zone than during the first 45 minutes.

The visitors were awarded two corner kicks in the first 10 minutes of the second half, but each time a DC United player stopped the threat by intercepting the ball.

CF made the first change of the match, in the 68the minute, while Matías Cóccaro gave way to Lassi Lappalainen.

By attacking, DC United managed to score. Gabriele Corbo missed his attempt to clear the ball, but it remained near the penalty area and Santos took off at full speed to score his first goal of the season, in the 85the minute of play.
