The summer holidays are approaching and pet-sitters are starting to no longer have places on their reservation books. These people take care of pets in the absence of their owners.
What will you do with your little companion this summer? While some of them can accompany their master to their vacation spot, others must sometimes be entrusted to family or loved ones.
If these are not available, pet boarding may be the solution. Stéphanie Darriet, manager of a pet boarding facility in Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, in Charente-Maritime, has been welcoming dogs for more than a year.
“People drop off their dog for the day, it’s a kind of daycare”
This former caregiver in a retirement home made her new job a passion that she foundmust transform his garden into a real playground. “On finds tunnels, pools, niches for them to rest, balls, wood, stuffed animals… Initially, I make pre-visits, I see the dogs before they arrive. I put them in contact with the neutral environment, walking them in parks or on public roads. Afterthey enter the playground“, indicates Stéphanie Darriet.
This pet sitter supports any breed of dog, any size: “They are only sociable dogs: they range from chihuahuas to very large dogs, like a Newfoundland. People who go to the zoo, hasquarium, at the beach drop off their dog for the day, it’s a sort daycare. For longer periods, it could be a week, two weeks…“
I make my diary of the dogs’ entries and exits, as well as their pre-visits. My notebook is full for the month of June and July.

Her approval allows her to accommodate up to nine animals, although she tries to take a little fewer in order to take care of them fully. “That makes a lot of people, it’s busy and it’s work“, she smiles. And as the summer holidays approach, reservations are increasing in number. “I make my diary of the dogs’ entries and exits, as well as their pre-visits. My notebook is full for the month of June and July.”
Pet sitter, a job that appeals
Dog boarding is not the only service Stéphanie Darriet offers. Every day, she also provides walks for animals that the owners cannot or no longer take out. This is the case for Shanna, a dwarf dachshund, whom she walks twice a day throughout the summer.
Hélène Charoing, summer resident in Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, entrusts her little four-legged companion to Stéphanie, in whom she trusts completely. “Stéphanie comes to walk my dog. Qhen I come on vacation, I call on her. For two years, I have had a lot of trouble walking, I broke my leg.”
According to the specialist site Animaute, there are more than 250,000 pet sitters In France.
