Day care services | Investing in quality is never an expense

A month in an association as active as the Quebec Association of Early Childhood Centers (AQCPE) is both a little and a lot. It’s been 30 days since I arrived at the AQCPE as general manager. I am discovering a new mandate, new challenges, but above all a brilliant ecosystem made up of thousands of key players in early childhood in Quebec: the network of early childhood centers and coordinating offices (CPE/BC).

The only proven model

The pandemic has highlighted the essential side of educational childcare services. Of course, all is not won. There are still many challenges and the network is constantly evolving. However, it is undeniable that the work accomplished daily in CPE/BC is colossal and I can only be proud to ensure that their interests are heard.

As we approach an era of transformation, the AQCPE reiterates its position and considers that the CPE/BC constitute the best model for Quebec families. CPEs are non-profit, parent-administered businesses and deliver the highest level of quality year after year, as evidenced by the result of the Ministry of Family’s quality assessment. In 2022, 89% of CPEs have reached the minimum quality thresholds, compared to 64% for subsidized daycares and 53% for unsubsidized daycares. Figures that speak for themselves. In this sense, it seems logical to us to encourage the conversion of non-subsidized places to places in CPEs in order to improve the quality of services across the province.

Parents demand (with good reason!) that their children receive the best. It seems obvious that the number one choice is that of places in CPE/BC. Investing in quality is never an expense. The proof is well established on the ability of CPEs/BCs to offer the best possible environment that promotes equal opportunities while actively participating in Quebec’s social economy.

A specific network

For the past few weeks, I have been traveling across Quebec to meet members in order to listen to them, take their pulse and get in tune with their daily reality. I have the chance to talk to professionals who all have the educational quality of toddlers at the heart of their actions. I am impressed by their determination, their creativity and their strength.

The last month has been busy. It’s a great adventure that begins with a look towards the future and all its possibilities.
