Crowned for the first time in its history in 2022, the Maple Leaf team will play in Group A in Bologna, on the lands of the country it defeated in the semi-finals of the last presentation of the Finals. Despite its favorite status and the possible presence of Félix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov in its ranks, Canada does not declare victory too prematurely.

“Our incredible 2022 run in Malaga has been a dream come true and I’m very proud of what the team and our country have achieved. Going to defend our title, we know we will be under a lot of pressure, but we look forward to proving that we fully deserve our place at the top. The title of double champion pleases us, and we will make every effort to ensure that the Davis Cup trophy remains in Canada,” commented in a press release from the national federation Frank Dancevic, captain of the Canadian team.

Each group will compete in a round-robin tournament in a different city — Bologna, Manchester, Valencia and a city to be determined in Croatia — from September 12-17. The top two teams from each section (based on number of wins, then percentage of sets and games won/lost) will qualify for the final stage of the competition (quarter-finals, semi-finals and final) which will take place from November 21 to 26, in Malaga, Spain.
