(Madrid) Russia ended their 15-year unconquered Davis Cup shortage on Sunday following another masterful performance from Daniil Medvedev.
Medvedev edged Marin Cilic 7-6 (7), 6-2 in the second singles match on the schedule to give Russia an insurmountable 2-0 lead over Croatia in the final. It was Russia’s third title win, and its first since 2006.

Andrey Rublev had given the lead to his team a little earlier by disposing of Borna Gojo in straight sets at the Madrid arena.
Russia’s other title was acquired in 2002. Croatia also coveted a third Davis Cup, after those of 2005 and 2018.
