Davis Cup Finals | Félix Auger-Aliassime will lead the Canadian team

(Montreal) Félix Auger-Aliassime will headline the Canadian team which will participate in the Davis Cup finals next month.

Auger-Aliassime, who is 23, will represent Canada at the Davis Cup for the sixth time in his career. He has a record of nine wins and four losses. In 2022, the Quebecer had an almost perfect record at the Davis Cup, losing his first duel in the preliminary tournament before signing eight consecutive victories en route to winning Canada’s very first title in this prestigious international competition.

Tennis Canada indicated that the Quebecer, who is at 19e world rank, will be accompanied for the occasion by his compatriots Gabriel Diallo, from Montreal, Alexis Galarneau, from Laval, Milos Raonic, from Thornhill, Ontario, and Vasek Pospisil, from Vernon, British Columbia.

Ontarian Frank Dancevic will once again act as captain for this competition which will take place from November 21 to 26 in Malaga, Spain.

“Having seen what this group was able to do during the group stage, including winning three games, and with the additions of Milos (Raonic) and Félix (Auger-Aliassime), we are confident that we have what it takes to win a second world title in a row,” Dancevic said in a statement.

Canada defeated Australia in the final last year, winning the first Davis Cup in its history.

Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov, from Richmond Hill, Ontario, shone in their respective singles matches to give Canada the victory. Shapovalov, however, is bothered by a knee injury which is slow to heal this season.

Canada will begin this tournament, which brings together the eight best men’s tennis teams in the world, against Finland on November 21.
