(Toronto) Félix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov, Vasek Pospisil, Brayden Schnur, and Peter Polansky will represent Canada in the Davis Cup Finals.
Milos Raonic, still bothered by a calf injury that recently caused him to miss the Indian Wells tournament, will not be in the game.
The Davis Cup will be played from November 25 to December 5, in Madrid.
The 21-year-old Auger-Aliassime will take part in the Davis Cup for the fourth time. He reached a personal high when he climbed to the 11e ATP rank – currently 12e –And also made the U.S. Open four in September.
Shapovalov will be making his eighth appearance in the tournament. Like Auger-Aliassime, the 22-year-old tennis player had a good 2021 season, notably reaching the Geneva Open final and the Wimbledon semi-final. Shapovalov occupies the 13e world rank.
Pospisil will join his compatriots in Madrid for his 21e participation in the Davis Cup. The 31-year-old has a record of 12 wins from 11 losses in singles, as well as 10 wins and 8 losses in doubles. He currently occupies the 85e ATP rank.
Schnur will defend his country’s colors for the third time. As for Polansky, he is a veteran of the team which has been selected 14 times and made 10 appearances.
The Davis Cup Finals feature six groups from three countries. Groups A and B will play their round robin matches in Madrid, while Groups C and F will play in Innsbruck, Austria, and Groups D and E will compete in Turin, Italy. The Canadian team is part of Group B. It will start its course on November 25 against Sweden, before facing Kazakhstan on November 28.
The winner of Group B will advance to the quarter-finals on 1er December. The semi-finals will be presented on December 3 and 4. The final will be held on December 5.
