David Cronenberg, Kristen Stewart, Viggo Mortensen and Park Chan-wook open the second week of the festival

Eight years after “Maps to the Stars”, David Cronenberg has returned to service with the disturbing and highly anticipated “Crimes of the Future”. Earlier in the afternoon, South Korean director Park Chan-wook made his return to competition with “Decision to Leave”, eighteen years after the electrifying “Old Boy”.

The palm trees of the Croisette were shaken at the start of the second week by Crimes of the Future by David Cronenberg. In official competition, the feature film – whose screenplay was written more than twenty years ago – comes to end the eight-year absence of the director whom we met the last time for Maps to the Stars in 2014. Announced as the scandal film of this 75th edition, Crimes of the Future focuses on issues of organ removal, mutations and transhumanism. Surrounded by Viggo MortensenLea Seydoux or even Kristen Stewart, the filmmaker lit up the red carpet at the start of the evening.

A long-awaited return also for the South Korean director Park Chan-wook arrived late afternoon.
