“Emmanuel Macron’s intervention was a form of duplicity”, denounced Wednesday on franceinfo David Cormand, ecologist MEP, co-president of the delegation of ecologists to the European Parliament, while the Head of State delivered a speech before the European Parliament on the occasion of the French presidency of the Council of the European Union.

“It was he who wanted to make the French presidency of the European Union something that would make it possible to highlight it during the presidential campaign”, emphasizes David Cormand. According to him, Emmanuel Macron chose to “to maintain the French presidency of the European Union during the French presidential campaign, whereas usually those who are confronted with this situation postpone the presidency of the Union by six months in order to be able to decouple the two things.”

The MEP recalls that the French president defends energy financing regulations “by joining forces with liberal countries, like Orban”, the Hungarian Prime Minister, while for years the EU “try to fight, and in particular the ecologists, to win an alliance which is energy sobriety and renewable energies”. According to David Corman, “because of the Faustian pact made by Emmanuel Macron – the liberticidal alliance with Viktor Orban in particular – we will have a regression with the inclusion of gas and nuclear” in financial aid from Europe. “It is a problem.”

The co-president of the delegation of ecologists to the European Parliament also raises the issue of voluntary termination of pregnancy within the European Union. “When Emmanuel Macron says, ‘I am going to defend abortion’, but yesterday, his Renew party, at the level of the European Parliament, built a conservative alliance to put at the head of Parliament one of the few MEPs who is unfavorable to abortion”, Maltese Roberta Metosla, “It’s a political problem”. David Cormand sees a contradiction in the words of Emmanuel Macron. “In front of the cameras, he says ‘I will be the champion of the authorization of abortion in the Charter of European Human Rights’, while we know that his underlings, at the same time, made agreements to allow the election of Mrs Metsola as head of Parliament. There is a problem of political credibility”, adds the Green MEP.
