David Bowie’s catalog sold to Warner

David Bowie’s extensive catalog, which spans from the late 1960s to just before his death in 2016, has been sold to Warner Chappell Music.

Over 400 songs including “Space Oddity”, “Ziggy Stardust”, “Fame”, “Rebel Rebel” and “Let’s Dance”, included in 26 David Bowie studio albums released during his lifetime, the posthumous studio album “Toy , Two studio albums by Tin Machine, as well as singles from soundtracks and other projects, are included in the deal.

Financial details of the sale were not disclosed. Warner Chappell is the music publishing division of Warner Music Group.

David Bowie, born David Jones in London in 1947, died in January 2016 after battling cancer for 18 months. The artist brought a theatricality and androgyny to popular music, which changed the very definition of a rock star. He was inducted into the Rock’n’roll Hall of Fame in 1996.

Last year, Warner Music Group struck an agreement with the Estate of David Bowie, which granted Warner Music a worldwide license to the rights to the catalog of music recorded by the artist from 1968 onwards.
