At 78, he is part of our musical heritage. Of these singers who, since the 1970s, rock our great moments of existence with their hits. “Vanina”, “Swann’s side”, “My heart is sick”… the most French of the Dutch has never seen his popularity rating drop. Today, he is touring media platforms to promote his “Golden Wedding” box set, bringing together 68 cult titles from 50 years of songs, like this Saturday on C8 in “TPMP People”. Visibly a fan, Matthieu Delormeau is full of praise and questions. But is first interested in the health of the singer who, for some time, has been accumulating worries. On January 25, 2022, Dave had taken a heavy fall on his stairs. Wounded in the back and head, he was taken to the Percy military hospital, near Paris, where he remained in a coma for four days due to a cerebral hemorrhage. The presenter also recalls that the artist had undergone heavy open-heart surgery in 2011. A black series that the latter completes by speaking of a recent carbon monoxide poisoning of which his companion, Patrick Loiseau, and he were victims. But since all these traumatic episodes, the one who made himself known, as he recalled, thanks to the title “Sugar Baby Love”, has completely lost his sense of taste and smell. A disaster for those who love “good things”, like a glass of wine.
A box that crowns 50 years of career and love
Curious, the host of C8, who seems to inquire on a personal basis, also asks the singer for how many years he has shared his life with Patrick Loiseau. He who admits to having only stories that do not exceed “no more than three years”. Simply, Dave replies that he has been living as a couple for 52 years and that he has “chemistry” with the one he prefers to describe as his companion and not as his husband (they have been married for 7 years). Because he finds that saying “her husband sounds heterosexual, which would be lying”, he adds with his characteristic humor.
Then comes the fateful question, that of the earnings of the one who has participated in many shows such as Eurovision, “Domino Day” on TF1 with Denis Brogniart, “France has an incredible talent” on M6 or even “Mask Singer” on TF1. Delormeau goes there cash: “why did you do this last show?” And the singer to answer just as frankly: “for the money! We were coming out of two years of confinement, there were no scenes. And I had to pay my rent.” The facilitator continues: “Can we know how much you have received?”. And Dave to be forced to announce that he signed a confidentiality clause. “But 10,000? 20,000?”. With a laughing eye, the latter immediately replies: “For 20,000, I wouldn’t have gone there”. As much to imagine that from the top of his 50-year career, the artist did not move for nothing. And, even more curious, Isabelle Morini-Bosc engages: “I remember an advertisement for edam… and that, there is a prescription, did it bring you a lot?”. Without being moved by the somewhat delicate question, Dave replies that it was a series of advertisements for Dutch specialties, edam, mimolette… that he was paid in francs at the time but that this corresponds to 400,000 euros. Enough to leave his audience completely flabbergasted, who didn’t make a big deal out of it!
